In the morning of Aug.15.2019, “TriMed Road Show” Symposium on Periarticular Fracture Therapy (Guangzhou) was opened in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University. Professor Wang Yijun made the opening speech as the host of the conference and introduced his old friend who was also the guest lecturer- Professor Robert Medoff, director of orthopedics, royal Hawaii medical center.

Before the conference, Professor Wang Yijun invited his old friend Professor Robert Medoff to take part in the morning rounds. They communicated with patients, cared about patients, analyed the disease, which made the atmosphere rigorous and harmonious.

After the rounds, the meeting began. Professor Robert Medoff reviewed some knowledge of imaging of distal radius fractures and shared some clinical cases, illustrating the importance of body position in guiding clinical treatment.

After reading some case materials from Professor Robert Medoff, Professor Wang Yijun explained his own views: compared with domestic dependence on CT and MRI, he found that X-ray was the most commonly used examination method in clinical practice in the United States, and also a method to improve his film reading ability.

Later, Professor Robert Medoff, shared various periarticular fractures of the distal radius that he had encountered in his clinical practice. Among them, some fracture lines were located at the distal end of the radial wrist articular surface, and the bone slices were very thin and small. It was difficult to fix them with traditional plate screws and K-wires, and the fixation was easy to fail. In the early 90s, he was thinking of an improved method to improve the unstable distal radius fractures fixation. He classified the distal radius in a specific way, combined with the specific design fixation-TriMed fixation system, which was used to improve the stability of periarticular fractures when using K-wire previously.

TriMed’s fixation system has hook plates, pin plates, supporting accessories, sleds and so on. It can fix the periarticular fractures in terms of various sites to restore joint surface flatness, free the joints and do early functional exercises. It is composed of pins, plates and screws to form a fixed system, which can disperse the load and avoid the problem of stress concentration at the far end of traditional internal fixator.

At the same time, Professor Robert Medoff also shared the application of TriMed internal fixation system in olecranon fracture. Olecranon fractures were very common. In clinical practice, the commonly used fixation method was known as tensioning wire, and the disadvantages were obvious. TriMed offered two solutions to olecranon fractures: Olecranon hook plate and sled plate. Among them, the sled plate was an integrated 3D structure, which combined intramedullary support and surface fixation to increase anti-torsion stability, with very low height, smooth surface and minimal stimulation to soft tissues.

In the afternoon of Aug.15.2019, “TriMed Road Show” Symposium on Periarticular Fracture Therapy (Guangzhou) was opened in the meeting room in 8^th floor of building B in Guangzhou Orthopedic hospital. Professor Hong Jinsong made the opening speech as the host of the conference and introduced the guest lecturer- Professor Robert Medoff, director of orthopedics, royal Hawaii medical center. At the same time, he hoped that everyone could gain more new knowledge during the study and wished the conference a complete success.

At the meeting, Professor Robert Medoff and the participants discussed the application of TriMed internal fixation system in the treatment of lateral malleolus fracture. Ankle orthopedics was very common, and patients with Weber B-type fractures accounted for 3/4 of ankle fractures. In the discussion, professor Robert Medoff gave a perfect solution -- TriMed sidewinder plate, also known as lateral locking plate, designed for Weber B-type fractures.

As for this lateral locking plates, Professor Robert Medoff explained that the sidewinder plate was superior to the traditional tubular plate and lag screw fixation in reducing operation time, achieving stability effect, dynamic pressure dispersion and accelerating recovery.

Professor Robert Medoff referred to a study of ankle arthroplasty, "poor reduction of the lower tibiofibular system" and "insufficient reduction of the fibula". In these two older, more difficult to treat fractures, Professor Robert Medoff expanded and reduced it with sidewinder plate, which had a great effect.

Professor Hong Jinsong talked with Professor Robert Medoff about the treatment experience of Pilon fracture and some existing problems of fixation mode, and hoped to design a new product for Pilon fracture. Professor Robert Medoff thanked and welcomed Professor Hong Jinsong's proposal. He was glad that this plate was now in the design and development process, and he showed the model diagram and shared it with everyone. He hoped that he could hear more such voices to help us improve.
